Summary
The Suzuki Equator has 6 recalls spanning the 2009–2012 production run, with the most serious being a front wheel hub defect on certain 2012 two-wheel-drive models where the hub can wear, crack, and eventually break while driving, reducing the driver's ability to control the vehicle.
On 2011–2012 vehicles, bolts connecting the engine oil cooler and oil filter to the engine can be under-strength, allowing oil to leak, pressure to drop, and the engine to seize. The 2010 model year has two front suspension concerns: lower control link bushing collars with welds that can fail and let the collar slip off its mounting bolt, shifting wheel alignment and causing the vehicle to handle unpredictably. A separate 2010 recall covers loose fasteners on the passenger front airbag module and steering shaft bracket, which can cause the airbag to deploy off-angle in a crash. Going back to 2009, vehicles operated in areas with heavy road salt use can develop rust inside the front crash zone sensors, which may prevent both driver and passenger front airbags from deploying in a collision.
