4 recalls across 3 model years
The Suzuki Sidekick has 4 recalls spanning the 1989-1996 production run, with the most serious being a fuel tank puncture risk on 1996 four-door models where a metal gusset inside the tank mounting area can pierce the tank in a rear-end collision, creating a fuel leak and fire risk. Also affecting 1996 production, but limited to Sidekick Sport trim, front strut mounting bolts can break due to insufficient strength at the upper strut mount, leaving the front suspension without a secure attachment point and making the vehicle difficult or impossible to control. On 1993 two-door models, the rear axle housing can develop a weld fracture where the axle tube meets the differential case, causing loss of rear braking and reduced vehicle control. Going back to the earliest production, 1989 models have an incorrect emissions control label that does not match the required information, a compliance issue with no mechanical consequence.
