The Toyota Corolla Hatchback has 2 recalls, both affecting the 2020 model year, where a damaged rear hatch wiring connector can prevent the backup lights from turning on when reversing, reducing visibility to other drivers and pedestrians behind the vehicle. Both filings describe the same underlying defect: the rear hatch wire harness connector may have been damaged during assembly, leaving the backup lights dark when the car is in reverse. The practical risk is that other road users have no warning the vehicle is moving backward, which raises the chance of a collision.
