8 recalls across 4 model years
The VinFast VF 8 has 8 recalls covering 2022 through 2025 model years, with the most serious being a driver assistance system defect on 2023-2025 vehicles where the system can activate unexpectedly during wide turns and move the steering wheel in ways that are difficult to counteract.
The 2023-2025 model years also have a separate issue where the center airbag mounted in the driver's seat can deploy improperly in a side impact and strike the driver's arm rather than cushioning them. On 2023 models specifically, the wrong airbags may have been installed at the factory, meaning most airbags other than the driver's front unit would not inflate in a crash at all. There is also a 2023-specific issue where the center seat airbag may not deploy correctly in certain collisions, and another where a software fault combined with a corroded or damaged electronic parking brake wiring harness can release the parking pawl on its own, allowing the vehicle to roll away while parked.
Spanning 2022-2024 models, inactive ignitors may have been installed in the airbags, preventing them from deploying in a crash. The 2023 model year has one additional recall where a software error can cause the main display screen to go blank, taking the speedometer and warning indicators with it.
