Summary
The Volkswagen Corrado has 8 recalls covering the full 1990-1994 production run, with the most serious being a fuel hose on 1990 models that may not be adequately clamped at the distribution rail, allowing fuel to seep onto hot engine components and start an engine compartment fire.
The 1990 model year also has a fuel pump issue where the filter housing inside the tank can deform, loosening the pump and restricting fuel flow to the engine, which can cause rough running and stalling. On 1992 and 1994 models, the cooling system is the primary concern. On VR6-equipped 1992 vehicles, a malfunctioning thermo switch, radiator fan, or water pump can allow coolant temperature and pressure to build until the heater core leaks hot coolant onto the driver's feet or steams up the windshield, briefly blocking the driver's vision. The 1994 model year shares the same heater core leakage risk from excessive cooling system pressure. The 1992 model year has a separate wiring issue as well, where an engine compartment harness routed near a sheet metal edge can chafe through its insulation, short circuit, and either stall the engine or shut down the radiator fan, causing the engine to overheat. The 1993 model year has a closely related wiring harness problem in the engine compartment with the same consequences: a chafe-induced short that can stall the engine or stop the cooling fan.
