9 recalls across 6 model years
The Volvo V90 has 9 recalls covering 2017 through 2022, with the most serious affecting 2022 plug-in hybrid models where the high-voltage battery can short-circuit while fully charged and parked, raising the risk of fire.
The 2022 model year also has a rearview camera that can fail to display an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, reducing the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle. On 2021 models, two separate issues affect crash protection: the airbag and restraint system control unit can come loose from the body during a crash, which can degrade airbag deployment, seatbelt pretensioner function, and high-voltage battery shutoff; and the rear seatbelt automatic locking retractors can release too early, preventing a child safety seat from being held securely.
The 2019-2020 model years share two issues. The automatic emergency braking system can fail to detect obstacles and engage, removing a layer of crash avoidance. The low-pressure fuel pump can blow a fuse and stop working, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly.
On 2017-2019 models, a software error in the vehicle connectivity module can cause the telematics system to malfunction and fail to transmit GPS coordinates to emergency services after a crash, which can delay response. The 2017 model year has a related issue where the Emergency Assist system may not alert Volvo or provide location data following a collision.
