VOLVO VT Recalls

The Volvo VT has 5 recalls spanning 2007 through 2016, with the most serious recent issue being a front lower ball joint defect on 2009-2010 and 2016 models where the ball joint can separate, causing a complete loss of steering control and raising the risk of a crash. The 2009-2010 model years also have a side window recall where the bottom track bonding the glass to the opening mechanism can fail, allowing the window glass to fall out of the frame entirely and become a road hazard. Moving to the 2007 model year, three separate recalls apply. The steering shaft locknut on certain 2007 trucks may lack its locking feature, allowing the nut to back off until the shaft separates and leaves the driver with no steering. There is also a fifth wheel hitch issue on 2007 models where the lever arm pivot bolt can be over-tightened, distorting an internal spacer and preventing the latch jaw from closing fully around the trailer king pin, meaning the trailer may not be securely coupled. On the fuel system side, 2007 models have a fuel filter pre-heater that energizes whenever the ignition is in the on position, which can ignite diesel fuel if someone opens the filter housing for routine maintenance while the ignition is left on.
