5 recalls across 9 model years
The Volvo VT has 5 recalls covering 2007 through 2010 model years, with the most serious being a steering shaft locknut defect on 2007 models where the nut can loosen and allow the shaft to separate, resulting in complete loss of steering control.
Two other recalls on 2007 models carry the same severity level. The fifth wheel hitch assembly on certain 2007 trucks can have an over-tightened pivot bolt that distorts the spacer sleeve, preventing the latch jaw from closing fully around the trailer king pin and allowing the trailer to detach. There is also a fuel system concern on 2007 models where the fuel filter pre-heater remains energized when the ignition is in the on position; if the fuel filter is serviced in this state, diesel fuel can ignite inside the filter housing and spread to surrounding components.
On 2009-2010 models, the lower front ball joint can fail and separate from its socket, causing a sudden and complete loss of steering. A separate issue on the same years involves the side window's bottom track debonding from the opening mechanism, which can allow the upper hinges to fail and the glass to fall out of the frame onto the road.
