2 recalls across 1 model year
The Yamaha Road Star (XV17) has 2 recalls, both affecting the 2002 model year, with the most serious being a transmission defect where abnormal wear on internal components can break a retaining circlip, causing the transmission and rear wheel to lock up suddenly and resulting in loss of control.
The 2002 model year also has a fuel system recall where the tank mounting bracket uses a washer and damper that do not adequately absorb engine vibration. Over time, that vibration can wear through the tank itself, allowing fuel to leak and creating a fire risk.
