6 recalls across 5 model years
The Zero FX has 6 recalls spanning 2012 through 2021, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2021 models where the DC-DC converter can shut down under high electrical load, cutting anti-lock brakes, lights, and instruments simultaneously and raising the risk of a crash.
The same DC-DC converter problem appeared earlier on 2015 models, where insufficient converter output during an anti-lock brake event could cause the ABS and all vehicle lights to cut out at once. On 2012 models, the motor controller can misread signal faults and cut power to the motor without warning, leaving the rider without propulsion in traffic.
The 2013 model year has a battery sealing defect where water can penetrate the battery pack, corrode the cells, and trigger a rapid temperature rise with electrolyte off-gassing that can burn the rider.
The 2018 model year has a compliance issue where the emissions label may state the wrong model year, which could cause an owner to miss a future safety notice. A label correction is the remedy for that one.
