3 recalls across 2 model years
The Zero DS has 3 recalls covering the 2011–2012 model years, with the most serious being a battery cell defect on 2012 models where the cell pouches can wear against their holders, allowing moisture inside and triggering an electrical short that can start a fire.
The 2012 model year also has a motor encoder signal that can drift out of range during extended use, causing the motor controller to cut power without warning and leaving the rider without drive while in motion. On both 2011 and 2012 models, the front brake caliper mounting bolts can corrode, crack, and fracture, allowing the caliper to come loose and lock the front wheel, which can throw the rider over the bars.
