15 recalls across 16 model years
The Acura ILX has 15 recalls covering the 2012–2020 model years, with the most serious being a driver's frontal airbag inflator defect on 2013–2016 models where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The airbag issue spans multiple filings but describes the same underlying problem: the driver-side frontal airbag inflator on 2013–2016 models can explode rather than deploy cleanly, scattering sharp metal fragments toward the driver and other occupants. This is the most consequential defect in the ILX recall history and affects a wide portion of the production run.
On the drivetrain side, 2016–2019 models have a driveshaft recall where excess grease can prevent the half-shaft retaining ring from seating fully, allowing the driveshaft to separate. When that happens, the vehicle loses drive power and can roll even while in Park. A separate but related driveshaft issue affects 2013 models, where a broken driveshaft can cause sudden loss of drive power and potential rollaway if the parking brake is not set.
The 2016–2020 model years have two brake-related recalls. Contaminated brake fluid can deform a seal inside the brake master cylinder, causing an internal fluid leak that reduces braking force and extends stopping distances. The 2016 model year is covered by both that recall and an earlier filing describing the same seal failure mechanism.
Fuel system issues affect several year ranges. On 2016–2020 models, the low-pressure fuel pump inside the tank can fail and stall the engine while driving. The 2019 model year is covered by a separate fuel pump recall with the same consequence. A deformed fuel tank on 2014–2019 models can cause the fuel level float to stick, making the gauge read higher than the actual fuel level and leaving the driver unaware the tank is nearly empty. The 2017 model year has a similar fuel tank deformation issue covered in its own filing.
Going back to earlier production, 2013 models with halogen headlamps can overheat if the lights are left on while the vehicle is stationary, potentially melting the lamp housing and producing smoke with a risk of fire. The 2013 model year also has a door latch recall shared with 2012 models, where operating the interior door handle while locking the door can dislodge the latch cable and allow the door to open while driving or in a crash. The 2013–2014 model years have a headlamp recall where reduced light output lowers driver visibility.
