Summary
The Acura ILX has 10 recalls covering 2013 through 2020 model years, with the most serious being a driveshaft separation defect on 2016-2019 vehicles where the driveshaft can pull free from the half shaft, causing sudden loss of drive power or allowing the car to roll while parked.
The 2016-2020 model years also have a brake master cylinder recall where contaminated fluid causes an internal seal to deform, leading to an internal fluid leak that extends stopping distances. Fuel system issues also affect later production: on 2014-2019 vehicles, a deformed fuel tank raises the fuel pump and causes the float to stick, making the fuel gauge read higher than actual, which can result in an unexpected stall when the tank runs dry.
On 2013-2014 models, the headlamp output can dim below the level needed for adequate nighttime visibility. The 2013 model year has an additional headlamp concern where the lamps can overheat when the car is stationary, potentially melting the housing and creating a fire risk. There is also a door latch issue on 2013 models where operating the interior door handle while the lock is engaged can displace the latch cable, leaving the door unlatched and able to swing open while driving or in a crash.
Going back to earlier production, the same driveshaft separation issue that affects 2016-2019 vehicles also appears on 2007-2015 models, where a broken driveshaft can produce a sudden loss of drive power or let the vehicle roll if the parking brake was not set before the driver exited.
