The Alfa Romeo 164 has 3 recalls spanning the 1991–1995 production run, with the most serious affecting 1991 models where the rubber fuel filler pipe can become brittle, leak fuel, and start a fire if a heat or ignition source is nearby. The other two recalls are limited to specific model years and are lower in severity. Also on 1991 models, the headlight switch can malfunction and cause the high beams to cut out without warning, reducing visibility at night. On 1995 models, the driver's sun visor was missing the required airbag caution label, meaning occupants may not have received the standard safety warning about airbag deployment.
