27 recalls across 9 model years
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has 27 recalls covering 2018 through 2025, with the most serious being a brake pedal or brake booster input rod that can detach on 2019–2020 models, leaving the driver with no braking ability.
The broadest active concern spans the entire production run: on 2018–2025 vehicles, a front seat belt buckle sensor can be improperly connected, preventing the front airbag from deploying in a crash. On 2021 models, a crimped clamp in the side curtain airbag assembly can fail, causing the cushion and inflator to separate so the airbag either deploys incompletely or not at all. The rearview camera on 2020–2025 vehicles can display a distorted or absent image when reversing. On 2021–2024 models, the tire placard carries incorrect pressure and size information, which can lead to underinflated or wrong-size tires being fitted.
On the brake side, 2019–2021 vehicles have an anti-lock brake system hydraulic control unit whose rotor shaft can separate during hard braking, reducing brake assist and disabling ABS, which increases stopping distances. The 2018–2020 models equipped with the optional carbon ceramic brake package can experience excessive clamping force that fractures the rotors, reducing braking performance. The 2018 model year has two separate brake fluid contamination issues that can degrade braking performance, and contaminated fluid may also damage internal brake system components over time.
On the fuel and engine side, 2020–2021 vehicles have a fuel line pressure sensor housing that can crack and leak fuel, raising the risk of a stall or fire. The 2018–2019 fuel pump can fail and cut drive power entirely. On 2018–2019 Quadrifoglio models specifically, the engine cooling hose can develop a coolant leak that causes the engine to overheat and stall. The 2018 model year also has a separate coolant hose between the radiator and engine that can leak and cause overheating, and a 2.0-liter engine misfire that can overheat the catalytic converter and damage nearby wiring, raising the risk of fire or stall.
The 2018–2019 adaptive cruise control software can prevent the driver from disabling the system after a traction control event, leaving the vehicle accelerating or maintaining speed against the driver's intent. On 2018 models, water intrusion into the body control module can knock out windshield wipers, exterior lights, and the horn while triggering false turn signals, and a separate software fault can limit the wipers to low speed regardless of conditions. The 2018–2019 fuel gauge can read higher than the actual tank level, potentially causing an unexpected stall when the tank runs dry. The 2018 rear liftgate wiring can corrode and cause the liftgate to open on its own at low speeds, dropping cargo onto the road.
