12 recalls across 6 model years
The Audi RS 5 has 12 recalls covering 2018 through 2023 model years, with the most serious affecting 2019-2021 vehicles where a broken rear axle lock nut can misalign the rear wheels and cause a sudden loss of steering control.
Three separate recalls address the front passenger airbag being disabled when it should be active. On 2023 models, a fault in the passenger seat sensor can deactivate the airbag without warning. On 2018-2019 models, two overlapping issues can produce the same result: corrosion on the passenger occupant detection system cable can cause the software to incorrectly flag a malfunction and shut off the airbag, and a related sensor fault can disable it through a separate path. In all cases, the airbag fails to deploy in a crash, leaving the front passenger without that protection.
The 2021 model year carries several additional issues. A rear seatbelt retractor can fail to properly secure a child restraint system, reducing crash protection for young passengers. The rearview camera display can go blank while reversing, cutting off rear visibility. The rear wiring harness in the spare wheel well area may lack abrasion protection, so a rear collision can damage the wires and prevent the doors from being opened from outside the vehicle while also disabling the hazard lights.
Going back to 2019-2021 models, rear axle misalignment can cause uneven or accelerated tire wear that raises the risk of a crash over time. On 2018-2019 models, an incorrect positive battery terminal cover can be damaged in a rear collision, cutting 12-volt power and producing the same door-locking and hazard light failures described above. The 2018 model year has a related issue where the positive terminal cover can be damaged in a rear crash, again potentially trapping occupants and disabling hazard lights.
The 2022 RS 5 Coupe and Sportback have a compliance recall for an incorrect tire and loading information label on the B-pillar that lists the wrong maximum combined weight for occupants and cargo, which could lead to unintentional overloading.
