4 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW i7 M70 xDrive has 4 recalls covering the 2023 and 2024 model years, with the most serious being a steering spindle on 2024 models that can break and require significantly more effort to steer, raising the risk of a crash.
The 2023 model year has two brake-related recalls that describe the same underlying problem: the integrated brake system can malfunction, causing the power brake assist to drop out and extending stopping distances, or causing the anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control to stop functioning, which can lead to loss of vehicle control. The 2023 model year also has a loose ground connection at the steering wheel that can disable the hands-on detection system. When that system is inoperative, the vehicle cannot tell whether the driver's hands are on the wheel, which prevents the emergency stopping assistant from activating when it otherwise would.
