4 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW i7 M70 xDrive has 4 recalls covering the 2023 and 2024 model years, with the most serious being a steering spindle on 2024 models that can break, forcing the driver to exert significantly more effort to steer and raising the risk of a crash.
The 2023 model year has two brake system recalls that overlap in consequence. The integrated brake system control module can malfunction, removing power brake assist and causing the driver to need considerably more pedal force to stop the car. The same malfunction can disable anti-lock brakes and dynamic stability control, which can cause the vehicle to skid or become difficult to control during hard braking or in slippery conditions. These two recalls address the same brake assist system on 2023 vehicles, and both prior repair attempts may not have fully resolved the underlying issue for all affected owners.
The 2023 model year also has an electrical recall involving the steering wheel ground connection, which may not have been properly attached at the factory. When this connection is faulty, the hands-on detection system stops working, meaning the car cannot tell whether the driver has released the steering wheel. If the driver's hands leave the wheel and the car's emergency stopping assistant fails to engage as a result, there is no automatic intervention to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
