The 2023 BMW i7 M70 xDrive has 3 recalls, the most serious being a brake system defect where the integrated brake unit can malfunction and cause the vehicle to need significantly more distance to stop, or lose anti-lock braking and stability control entirely.
The brake issue is covered by two filings describing the same underlying problem: the integrated brake system may fail to provide power-assisted braking, and the anti-lock braking and electronic stability control systems can stop functioning, leaving the driver with reduced stopping ability and diminished control during hard braking or slippery conditions. The third recall involves the steering wheel's ground connection, which may not have been properly secured during assembly. When that connection is faulty, the hands-on detection system stops working and cannot tell whether the driver's hands are on the wheel. If the vehicle's emergency stopping assistant would normally intervene when it detects an unattended wheel, it cannot do so, raising the risk of a crash in situations where that system would otherwise act as a backup.
