4 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW K1200RS has 4 recalls covering the 1998 and 2000 model years, with the most serious being a fuel tank deformation issue on 1998 models where high ambient temperatures can open a gap between the tank and fuel pump gasket, allowing fuel to leak and creating a fire risk.
The 2000 model year has a separate fuel system concern where improperly installed crimp-type hose clamps along the fuel line can leak, again creating a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source. Returning to 1998 models, two engine-related recalls round out the history. Cylinder head sealing plugs near the spark plug area may not be fully seated, and if one or both detach while riding, coolant can escape and run along the engine cover onto the rear tire, reducing traction. There is also a risk that the snap ring retaining the oil thermostat housing cover may not have been properly seated during production; if the cover works loose or separates, the engine can lose its entire oil supply rapidly, leading to engine damage.
