The BMW M340i has 3 recalls covering 2019 through 2022 model years, with the most serious being a front seat belt anchor bolt on 2021 models that was not tightened to specification, meaning the belt assembly can pull free in a crash and fail to restrain the occupant. The 2020 model year has a separate restraint issue: improper welding on the rear center headrest can cause it to fold down in a rear-end collision, reducing head and neck protection for that seating position. Spanning the full 2019-2022 production range, the audio module software can fail to generate the audible chime that reminds the driver to buckle their seat belt, removing that warning cue before driving.
