The 2019 BMW M340i has 5 recalls, the most serious involving a steering tie rod that can fracture under high heat or rough road conditions, causing loss of vehicle control and raising the risk of a crash.
Two recalls address the rearview camera: in one, the camera image may fail to appear entirely when reversing, and in another, the image may be missing or reduced in a way that limits what the driver can see behind the vehicle. Both leave the driver without a reliable view when backing up. On the occupant safety side, a seat frame weld may not hold properly, which can prevent the seat from restraining an occupant in a crash. There is also a software issue where the audio module fails to chime when the driver's seatbelt is unfastened, removing the audible reminder to buckle up before driving.
