4 recalls across 11 model years
The BMW R 1200 GS has 4 recalls covering 2004 through 2014 model years, with the most serious being a fuel pump that can crack and leak fuel on 2011-2014 models, creating a fire risk if the leaking fuel contacts an ignition source.
On 2013 models, the transmission output seal can be pushed out of position by internal pressure, allowing transmission oil to leak onto the rear tire and reduce traction. On 2005-2010 models, the rear wheel mounting flange can crack, causing the mounting bolts to loosen and the rear wheel to lose its attachment to the motorcycle. Going back to the 2004 model year, water can bypass a faulty O-ring seal around the fuel pump housing and reach the pump electronics, causing the engine to stall or fail to start without warning.
