5 recalls across 7 model years
The BMW R 1200 ST has 5 recalls covering the 2005–2009 model years, with the most serious being a front brake line routing defect on 2007–2009 models where vibration can split the line, leak fluid, and if the reservoir empties, cause complete front brake failure.
The 2005–2007 model years are subject to a rear wheel mounting flange that can crack, allowing the mounting bolts to loosen and the rear wheel to detach from the motorcycle while riding. Two additional recalls affect 2005 models only. On those, debris can fall into the throttle housing and jam between the throttle body and engine block, restricting the throttle cable pulley and preventing normal throttle response. There are also two anti-lock brake concerns on 2005 models: under rapid and repeated hard braking, the anti-lock braking system can temporarily stop functioning, and if the front left brake caliper is removed and reinstalled with the anti-lock sensor cable routed incorrectly, that cable can chafe against the brake disc over time and eventually disable the anti-lock braking system entirely.
