Cadillac Escalade Ext Recalls

The Cadillac Escalade EXT has 10 recalls spanning 2003 through 2021, with the most serious being a passenger-side front airbag inflator defect on 2007–2013 models where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

The airbag inflator issue accounts for the majority of recalls on these vehicles and covers a wide range of model years. On 2007–2013 examples, particularly those originally sold or registered in high-humidity states including Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and several Gulf Coast states, long-term heat and moisture exposure degrades the airbag propellant. In a crash that triggers deployment, the inflator can explode rather than inflate normally, scattering sharp metal fragments toward occupants. The 2007 and 2009 model years are each covered by their own separate filings describing the same mechanism. Multiple recall campaigns address overlapping year ranges within the 2007–2013 window, reflecting the broad scope of the Takata inflator problem across the industry.

On the brake side, 2003 models have a brake hydro-boost module with an o-ring seal that can fail, which may produce a noise from the engine compartment during braking and cause a slight increase in steering effort while braking or parking.

The 2021 model year has a recall where the seatbelt and airbag status warning light may not be bright enough to see clearly, reducing the driver's ability to notice a fault in those systems.

Going back to 2003, certain vehicles were missing required safety language on the airbag caution label, specifically the warnings about rear-facing child seats and proper seating distance from the airbag. The information was present in the owner's manual but absent from the label on the vehicle itself.
