2012 Cadillac Escalade Ext

The 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT has 3 recalls, all involving the front passenger airbag inflator, which can explode and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, potentially causing serious injury or death.

All three recalls address the same defect in the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator module. In a crash where the airbag deploys, the inflator can rupture violently rather than inflate the bag in a controlled way, turning the housing into a source of metal shrapnel directed toward anyone seated in the front passenger seat or nearby. These recalls apply to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories, including Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and several Gulf Coast states, as well as U.S. territories, because prolonged exposure to heat and moisture accelerates the breakdown of the propellant inside the inflator. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple campaigns covering overlapping model years exist for this single underlying problem.
