The 2004 Cadillac SRX has 6 recalls, the most serious being a shift lever that can be moved out of Park without pressing the brake pedal, or even with the ignition off, allowing the vehicle to roll away on its own.
On the brakes side, the anti-lock brake system on all-wheel drive models can briefly cut the driver off from normal braking for up to about one second, extending stopping distance in a situation where every foot counts. The accelerator pedal assembly can also fail to return the engine to idle within the required time in cold weather if one of the throttle return springs breaks, leaving the engine running at an elevated speed when the driver lifts off the gas. There is also a seat mounting concern: the front anchor tabs on one or both front seats may not be fully seated in the floor pan, meaning those seats can pitch rearward in a crash and increase injury risk to the front occupant or anyone sitting behind them.
