4 recalls across 6 model years
The Chevrolet 4500XD has 4 recalls covering 2017 through 2022 model years, with the most serious being a 2021-2022 suspension and steering joint issue where hex flange lock nuts can break, causing steering instability and raising the risk of a crash.
On 2017-2020 models, rear axle U-bolt nuts may not have been properly tightened and can loosen, allowing the axle to shift out of alignment. When that happens, the driveshaft can separate and the vehicle can stall or lose rear drive power. The 2020 model year also has a separate issue where rear outer wheel lug nuts may not have been properly tightened at the factory, allowing a wheel to work loose and separate from the vehicle while driving. Also on 2020 models, certain vehicles equipped with a dual-mode belt locking seat belt assembly have front seat belt webbing that may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash.
