4 recalls across 6 model years
The Chevrolet 4500XD has 4 recalls covering 2017–2022 model years, with the most serious being a 2021–2022 recall where suspension and steering joint lock nuts can break, causing steering instability and raising the risk of a crash.
On 2020 models, two separate fastener issues affect the rear of the vehicle. The rear outer wheel lug nuts may not have been torqued correctly at the factory, allowing them to loosen until a wheel separates from the axle while driving. The rear axle U-bolt nuts, also a concern on 2017–2019 models, can back off and let the rear axle shift out of alignment, which can cause the driveshaft to separate and cut power to the rear wheels. Also on 2020 models, front seatbelts equipped with a dual-mode locking mechanism can fail to properly restrain an occupant in a crash.
