The 2020 Chevrolet 4500XD has 3 recalls, the most serious being two chassis-level issues: rear wheel lug nuts and rear axle U-bolt nuts that may not have been properly tightened at the factory, either of which can cause a wheel or driveshaft separation while driving.
On the wheel side, loose lug nuts on the rear outer wheels can allow a wheel to detach from the vehicle entirely, creating a serious crash hazard for the truck and anything nearby. The U-bolt issue is related but distinct: the U-bolts clamp the rear leaf spring pack to the axle, and if those nuts back off, the axle can shift out of alignment. When that happens, the driveshaft can separate, cutting power to the rear wheels and potentially stalling the vehicle in traffic. The third recall involves the front seatbelt assemblies on trucks equipped with a dual-mode belt locking mechanism. The webbing or locking system can fail to properly restrain an occupant in a crash, raising the risk of injury to the driver or front passenger.
