4 recalls across 8 model years
The Chevrolet Silverado 4500 has 4 recalls covering 2019 through 2024 model years, with the most serious being a brake pressure sensor on 2019-2024 vehicles that can leak fluid into the brake pressure switch, cause an electrical short, and start a fire while the truck is driving or parked.
A related brake system issue affects 2019-2020 models that were previously repaired under an earlier recall: the replacement wiring harness used in that repair was assembled without protective tape, leaving the wires exposed to damage that can cause power brake assist to fail and increase stopping distances. On 2024 models, the airbag control module may not have been activated during assembly, meaning the airbags will not deploy in a crash.
Going back to the 2019 model year, trucks equipped with the Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engine and the optional engine block heater have a wiring defect that can short-circuit and damage engine components, also raising the risk of fire.
