2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: a leaking brake pressure sensor that can short-circuit and ignite, and a faulty engine block heater connection on Duramax 6.6-liter diesel models that can also cause a fire.

The brake pressure sensor can allow fluid to seep into the brake pressure switch, where the moisture creates a short circuit that overheats the wiring and can start a fire whether the truck is moving or parked. On diesel models equipped with the optional engine block heater, a similar short-circuit risk exists at the heater connection, where damaged components can ignite engine parts nearby. The third recall is a follow-up to a prior repair: trucks that already received a brake jumper wire harness under an earlier remedy may have gotten a harness assembled without protective tape wrapping the wires. Without that tape, the exposed wiring can wear or chafe until it fails, causing the power brake assist to cut out and requiring significantly more pedal force to slow the truck.
