The ball joints connect the front wheels to the suspension and keep the steering geometry intact. On affected vehicles, the rubber boots protecting these joints can allow dirt, water, and moisture to reach the ball stud inside. Once moisture gets in, the stud corrodes and the joint wears prematurely. When a ball joint separates, the front suspension loses its connection to the wheel, and the driver can lose control of the vehicle with little warning. Because an earlier repair attempt did not fully resolve the issue, a subsequent campaign was issued to address both the contamination and corrosion concerns together. All three filings describe the same underlying defect, so owners should confirm their vehicle has received the most current remedy rather than an earlier, partial fix.
