The 1999 Dodge Dakota has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the brake lines: rear brake hoses can be punctured by contact with the axle vent hose, and on 2.5L models, the left front brake tube can be punctured by the power steering hose, either of which can cause a significant loss of braking ability.
The seatbelt system also has a concern: the front seatbelt retractor may not function correctly, meaning the belt could fail to lock and hold an occupant properly in a crash. There is also a steering wheel issue where foam sound-deadening material inside the wheel hub can come loose and jam the clockspring ribbon, which is the coiled electrical connector that links the steering wheel to the horn and airbag, potentially cutting the circuit and disabling those systems.
