The 2014 Dodge Dart has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the automatic transmission, which can unexpectedly drop into neutral or fail to hold the vehicle in park, raising the risk of a rollaway or loss of power while driving.
Two of the recalls address the transmission shifting issue from different angles: the transmission control module can fail and cause the transmission to slip into neutral without warning, and the shifter cable can detach from the transmission, leaving the driver unable to shift into park even when the lever is moved there. Both conditions can allow the vehicle to roll away on a slope. There is also a brake concern affecting certain vehicles with 2.0L or 2.4L engines: engine oil from the vacuum pump can seep into the brake booster and damage it internally, reducing the power assist that helps the brakes work and lengthening the stopping distance.
