The 2000 Dodge Intrepid has 4 recalls, the most serious of which involve the passenger airbag delivering the wrong inflation force in a crash, a seatbelt retractor that may not lock during a frontal collision, and brakes that can overheat and fade on non-ABS models.
The airbag issue means the passenger-side bag may not deploy with the correct force, raising the risk of injury to the front passenger. The driver's seatbelt retractor can have a manufacturing defect that prevents it from locking up during a crash, reducing how well the belt restrains the driver. On non-ABS-equipped vehicles, a bent snap ring inside the brake master cylinder can hold the brakes in a partially applied position, causing them to overheat and lose stopping power over time. There is also a structural concern on vehicles without a sunroof: the B-pillar, the vertical post between the front and rear doors, may not meet federal interior impact standards, meaning a head strike against it in a crash carries a higher risk of injury.
