7 recalls across 4 model years
The Dodge Magnum has 7 recalls covering the 2005–2008 production run, with the most serious being a driver and passenger frontal airbag inflator defect on all 2005–2008 models where the inflator can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, striking the driver or other occupants.
The 2007 model year has a separate powertrain concern: on vehicles with the 42RLE automatic transmission, the powertrain control module can momentarily lock the drive wheels if the driver shifts from drive to neutral and back to drive above about 40 mph, which can cause a sudden loss of traction.
The 2005 model year carries several additional issues. The battery positive cable fastener at the bulkhead connection point can be loose or missing, which allows heat to build up at the connection and start a fire inside the instrument panel. On the restraint side, a rear floorpan reinforcement weld may not have been completed, which means the rear seatbelt anchors and child seat anchors can pull free in a crash, leaving rear passengers and child restraints without proper support. The front shoulder belt height-adjustment loop bolt can also be insufficiently tightened, allowing the shoulder belt to separate from its mounting point in a crash and reducing protection for front seat occupants.
