The 1991 Dodge Ram has two recalls of equal severity, one where a broken fuel injector pump part can cause the engine to surge to maximum speed with no way for the driver to reduce throttle, and one where the steering wheel can crack and separate from the column. The fuel system concern only affects trucks with the intercooled turbo-diesel engine: a pin inside the injector pump can break and leave the engine running at full fuel delivery, which can send the truck accelerating without warning and with no throttle response. The steering issue involves the wheel's internal armature, which can develop fatigue cracks and split away from the hub where it connects to the steering column, leaving the driver without meaningful steering input.
