14 recalls across 3 model years
The Ducati 1199 Panigale has 14 recalls covering 2012 through 2014 model years, with the most serious being a rear shock absorber defect on 2014 S, Superleggera, and R trim motorcycles where a loosening damper rod nut can cause the shock to lose damping force and potentially disassemble, resulting in loss of vehicle control.
The 2014 models are otherwise not heavily represented in this recall history. The bulk of the issues concentrate on 2012 and early 2013 production.
On the suspension side, 2012 models have two related issues involving the swingarm: the shaft pivots can loosen and separate from the swingarm, and an incorrect fastener was used to attach the swingarm to the rear suspension linkage. Either failure can cause the rear suspension to collapse suddenly, making the motorcycle uncontrollable. These same swingarm pivot and linkage fastener concerns also extend to 2012-2013 models built between March and July 2012.
Braking is another area of concern on early production 2012-2013 models from that same March-to-July 2012 window. The front brake master cylinder reservoir hose can contact the threaded end of a retaining screw, wear through, and leak brake fluid, leading to front brake failure. This issue also appears in a separate filing covering 2012 models more broadly.
Steering damper integrity is a recurring theme across 2012 and early 2012-2013 production. The mounting bolts at the steering head can loosen and fall out, and a bearing on the damper rod eyelet can slip free of its seat. Either way, the steering damper detaches from the steering head, removing the damping that helps keep the front end stable under hard braking and cornering.
On 2012-2013 models from that same early production period, the exhaust butterfly valve cable cover sits close enough to the catalytic converter to melt or catch fire, producing smoke and a potential fire risk. A similar heat-related cable concern appears in a separate 2012-only filing.
The lowest-severity recalls cover the left handlebar switch on 2012 and 2012-2013 models, where a poor connection at the dashboard can cut power to the horn, turn signals, high beam, and instrument panel display, removing signaling capability while riding.
