Summary
The Ferrari 458 has 11 recalls spanning the 2010–2015 production run, with the most serious recent issue being a passenger airbag inflator on 2014 models that can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, raising the risk of serious injury or death.
The 2015 model year has a separate airbag concern: the driver-side airbag module can be improperly assembled and deploy at a rotated angle in a crash, reducing its effectiveness and raising the risk of driver injury. The 2013 model year, if originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories including Florida, Hawaii, Texas, and several others, has a similar inflator rupture risk on the passenger side, with fragments capable of striking occupants.
On the engine side, 2011–2012 models have a crankshaft that can fail and cause the engine to seize suddenly, leaving the vehicle without power in traffic. The 2012 model year is also covered by a separate filing describing the same crankshaft failure mechanism and the same consequence.
Running through the full 2010–2014 production span, the front trunk lid secondary latch can fail to release when the vehicle is stationary, which creates a risk of entrapment for anyone inside.
The 2010 model year carries several issues. The braking system can leak fluid, resulting in partial or total brake loss. There is also an engine heat issue where the rear wheelhouse and heat shield assemblies can deform and press against the exhaust system, causing the bonding adhesive to overheat, smoke, and potentially ignite, resulting in a fire even during normal operation.
