Summary
The Ford CF Series has 3 recalls covering 1986 and 1987 model years, with the most serious being a steering gear defect on 1987 CF6000, CF7000, and CF8000 vehicles where an out-of-tolerance internal component can cause steering effort to increase and the gear to seize without warning during slow, sharp turns, leading to loss of steering control. On 1986 CF6000 and CF7000 models, parking brake rollers can become brittle and fracture when the brakes are applied, reducing the vehicle's ability to hold on a slope. There is also a brake system issue on 1986 CF6000, CF7000, and CF8000 vehicles where low-pressure warning buzzers and lights may not activate when air pressure in the service reservoir drops below 60 psi, leaving the driver without an alert that braking capacity is diminished.
