3 recalls across 2 model years
The Ford Custom 500 has 3 recalls covering the 1977 and 1979 model years, with the most serious being a fuel system fire risk on 1977 police vehicles equipped with the 460 cubic inch Interceptor package, where the left exhaust pipe can wear through a rear fuel hose and create a fire hazard.
The 1979 model year has two recalls. On the brake side, front brake hoses can rub against the edges of frame-mounted rebound bumper brackets, wearing through the hose and leaking brake fluid, which reduces front braking performance. The brake warning light would illuminate to alert the driver. There is also a compliance recall on 1979 models sold in Canada, where the fuel filler neck decal listing unleaded fuel requirements appears only in English rather than in both English and French as required.
