Ford Ecosport Recalls

The Ford EcoSport has 8 recalls covering 2018 through 2022 model years, with the most serious being a front axle shaft defect on 2021-2022 vehicles where the shafts can disconnect from the transmission, cutting drive power and, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, allowing it to roll away.

The 2018-2022 model years share a separate powertrain concern: the oil pump drive belt or its tensioner can fail, causing a sudden drop in engine oil pressure that stalls the engine and removes power brake assist, making the vehicle harder to stop. On 2020 models, two related airbag recalls affect the front passenger side: in one case the inflator may not deploy correctly in a crash, and in another the airbag module is missing first-stage booster propellant, meaning the bag will not inflate as intended when needed. These are distinct manufacturing issues but both leave the front passenger with reduced crash protection.

The 2020-2021 model years have a rearview camera software issue where the display can go blank while reversing, reducing the driver's view behind the vehicle. Going back to 2019, certain vehicles have front seat frames with improperly welded joints that leave the seat back insecurely attached, which raises the risk of injury in a crash. The earliest production year in the recall set, 2018, has a label issue limited to vehicles sold in US federal territories: the brake fluid reservoir cap carries a European pictogram and the owner's manual is the European version, which could lead an owner to add the wrong brake fluid and degrade braking performance.
