The 2021 Ford Maverick has 6 recalls, all affecting hybrid models, with the most serious being a risk of engine compartment fire if the 2.5L hybrid engine fails and releases oil or fuel vapor near hot exhaust components. Two interconnected powertrain concerns round out the recall picture. The hybrid powertrain control module software can cause the transmission to shift into neutral without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is in motion. Prior repair attempts for this issue did not fully resolve it for some vehicles, leading to follow-up recalls to address the same loss-of-drive risk. On the electrical side, the 12-volt battery can degrade and fail suddenly, knocking out electrical accessories including hazard lights and potentially cutting drive power as well.
