The 1983 Ford Ranger has two recalls of equal severity: one affecting 4x4 models where front suspension studs can fracture and cause sudden loss of steering control or failure of the front brakes, and one where a fuel hose can separate and start an underhood fire.
On 4x4 models, the studs that attach the front coil springs to the axle and radius arms can crack, either during assembly or over time in service. If one breaks, steering response can degrade or a front brake hose can rupture, cutting braking power to the front wheels. The fuel system recall affects Rangers equipped with the 2.0L or 2.3L engine: the rubber hose between the fuel pump and the carburetor can pull apart, spilling fuel near hot engine components and creating a fire risk.
