5 recalls across 3 model years
The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic (FLHTC) has 5 recalls spanning the 1989-1993 model years, with the most serious being a 1993 front brake disc mounting screw that can break without warning, reducing stopping power in the front brake and raising the risk of a crash.
The 1993 model year also affects cruise-control-equipped bikes through a throttle cable liner that can soften from heat buildup, making the throttle harder to operate and creating a distraction while riding. Going back to 1990, there are two separate issues: the 30-amp circuit breaker can malfunction and cut power to the lights, ignition, and accessories while the motorcycle is in motion, and the cruise control system can take in water while engaged, causing a short circuit that makes the bike accelerate on its own. The 1989 model year has a similar cruise control water contamination issue where the system can short and trigger unintended acceleration, though normal methods of disengaging cruise control can return the throttle to manual operation.
