5 recalls across 3 model years
The Honda Prelude has 5 recalls spanning the 1980–1997 production run, with the most serious being a group of defects on 1988 models including a throttle valve that can stick slightly open after releasing the accelerator, an accelerator pedal stopper that can bend and trap the pedal to the floor, and a power steering hose that can leak fluid onto the exhaust manifold and start a fire.
The final production year, 1997, has a recall where the ignition switch interlock can fail to require the transmission to be in Park before the key can be removed. A driver who removes the key without shifting into Park and without setting the parking brake can leave the vehicle free to roll. Going back to the earliest production year, 1980 models with prolonged exposure to road salt can develop corrosion on the front and rear strut coil spring support brackets. If those brackets weaken enough to fail, the driver can lose control of the vehicle.
