The 1988 Honda Prelude has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate issues that can prevent the accelerator pedal from returning to idle, leaving the driver unable to reduce engine power while moving.
One of those throttle concerns only affects SI trim vehicles: a porous throttle body casting can allow coolant to seep onto the throttle valve and leave residue that slows its return when the driver lifts off the accelerator. In the other, the accelerator pedal stopper can bend under heavy foot pressure, catching the pedal in the depressed position and causing an uncontrolled acceleration event. On the steering side, the power steering supply hose can develop a small leak at the connector clamp, and if the escaping fluid contacts the exhaust manifold, it can start a fire.
