Summary
The Honda Fit has 27 recalls spanning the 2002–2022 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a Takata passenger-side airbag inflator on 2006–2012 models that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The 2018–2022 model years share a rearview camera issue where a voltage drop during engine start can prevent the backup camera image from appearing on screen, reducing rear visibility when reversing. On 2019 models, the low-pressure fuel pump can fail and cause a sudden loss of engine power while driving. For 2015 models, ignition coil wiring can be damaged by electrical interference, causing the coil to overheat and the engine to stall. The 2015–2016 LX trim without a sunroof has rear grab handle brackets that can puncture the side curtain airbags during deployment, reducing protection for rear occupants. Some 2015 models were also assembled with an incorrect A-pillar cover that can interfere with side curtain airbag deployment. The 2014–2015 model years have a transmission control software issue that can damage the drive pulley shaft until it breaks, causing sudden loss of acceleration or front wheel lockup. On 2013 manual-transmission models, the passenger-side driveshaft can fracture and separate, cutting drive power and allowing the vehicle to roll if parked on a slope without the parking brake engaged.
On 2012–2013 models, the electronic stability control system can receive incorrect yaw rate data and fail to intervene when the vehicle begins to skid. The 2009–2010 model years have a VTEC spring assembly that can fail and stall the engine while driving. Going back further, 2007–2008 models have a driver's power window master switch that water can reach through the door, causing the switch to overheat and catch fire; an earlier repair attempt did not fully resolve this issue. The 2007 model year also has front axle shafts that can corrode and break, causing loss of drive power or a rollaway if parked without the parking brake. On 2008 models registered in certain states, the front passenger airbag system can pose a higher injury risk to small or out-of-position occupants. The 2007–2008 headlight wiring harness can fail and leave the low-beam headlights inoperative at night. The earliest production years through 2011 are subject to the Takata inflator issue described in the lead.
