2014 Honda Fit

The 2014 Honda Fit has 3 recalls, all involving the Takata airbag inflators — both the driver and passenger frontal airbags can rupture during deployment, sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and causing serious injury or death.

All three recalls address the same underlying hazard in the frontal airbag system. In a crash that triggers airbag deployment, the inflator — the component that rapidly fills the bag with gas — can burst apart rather than inflate normally. When that happens, metal fragments from the inflator housing can travel through the cabin at high velocity, striking the driver, front passenger, or anyone else inside. Because this affects both the driver-side and passenger-side frontal airbags, neither occupant in the front row is protected from the risk. This is among the most serious defect types found in recalled vehicles, as the safety system itself becomes the source of injury.
