101 recalls across 29 model years
The Honda Odyssey has 101 recalls spanning the 1998–2026 model years; the most serious recent issue affects 2023–2024 models where water can enter an improperly sealed steering gearbox, corrode and bind the gears, and cause a loss of steering control.
The current generation (2018–2026) carries a substantial share of the recall history. On 2018–2026 models, a software error in the passenger seat occupant sensor can cause airbags to deploy or suppress incorrectly in a crash, and a separate software fault on 2018–2022 models can trigger side and side curtain airbags to fire without a collision. The 2018–2019 model years have an engine connecting rod bearing that can seize and stall the vehicle, and a rear brake caliper piston coating issue that reduces stopping power. On 2018–2020 models, the front seat belt buckle can fail to latch, third-row wiring near the seat can short and overheat creating a fire risk, power sliding door latches and frozen door handle cables can allow doors to open while driving, and front seat belts may not buckle properly. The 2018–2021 BraunAbility wheelchair-converted vans have a fuel tank overfill issue that can leak fuel onto the ground near ignition sources. A loose battery connection on 2018–2019 vehicles can cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into Park while driving, potentially damaging the parking mechanism and allowing the vehicle to roll when parked. The 2019 model year adds a timing belt whose teeth can separate and stall the engine, plus a faulty airbag control unit that may prevent airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from deploying in a crash.
Several camera and display issues cluster in the 2018–2023 range. A faulty coaxial cable connector on 2018–2023 models can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing. On 2018–2020 models, a software error can cause the instrument panel to go dark, suppressing speedometer, oil pressure, and gear position readouts until the next ignition cycle. Rearview cameras on 2019–2020 models can produce distorted images or fail to display due to water intrusion. The 2020–2022 model years have side mirror heating pads that can debond and drop the mirror glass. On 2021–2026 vehicles modified with Vantage Mobility wheelchair equipment, the wheelchair restraint retractors may not lock properly.
The 2015–2016 model years have fuel tank welds that can separate and leak fuel. Second-row seat mechanisms account for multiple recalls on 2011–2017 models: release levers can stick in the unlocked position, seat rail latching can fail if a seat is positioned between its detents, and seatbacks can become unlocked, all of which raise injury risk in a crash. The 2013 model year has a piston hardness issue that can lead to sudden engine failure. On 2007–2008 models, the Vehicle Stability Assist system can apply the brakes hard without warning and without illuminating brake lights. The 2005–2010 models share a fuel pump strainer cover that can deteriorate and leak fuel. The 2005 model year specifically also has a misinstalled wheel speed sensor that can reduce anti-lock brake effectiveness, corroding front impact sensors that can delay or prevent frontal airbag deployment, and a steering column that can be incorrectly assembled and lose steering control entirely.
