The 2003 Honda Odyssey has 14 recalls, the most serious being Takata airbag inflators in both the driver and passenger frontal airbags that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag concerns span several related issues. Both the driver and passenger inflators are subject to the Takata rupture defect, and prior repair attempts on some vehicles may not have fully resolved the problem, as one recall covers passenger airbags that were installed incorrectly during a previous replacement and may not deploy properly in a crash. A separate airbag recall covers certain vehicles where the frontal airbags can deploy without a crash, raising the risk of a collision. On the fuel system side, some vehicles have surface imperfections in the fuel tank that allow fuel to leak, and in certain cold-climate regions, extreme temperatures combined with rough roads can crack the fuel sending unit flange, also producing a leak; either condition creates a fire risk near an ignition source. The ignition switch on some vehicles has an interlock lever that can deform or be damaged, allowing the driver to pull the key out while the transmission is still in gear, which can let the vehicle roll away unexpectedly.
