The 2005 Honda Odyssey has 9 recalls, the most serious involving a fuel leak from a deteriorating fuel pump component and a steering column that may be incorrectly assembled, either of which can cause a crash or fire.
The fuel system issue involves two related defects: a cracked fuel pump strainer and a deteriorating strainer cover, both of which can allow fuel to escape near potential ignition sources. The steering column recall involves an assembly error that can cause a sudden, complete loss of steering control. On the brake side, rear anti-lock brake wheel speed sensors may have been installed incorrectly, causing the ABS to receive wrong speed readings, lose braking force, or disable itself entirely. Two separate airbag recalls address front impact sensors that were not properly sealed at the factory; water and corrosion can cause these sensors to fail, meaning airbags may not deploy in a frontal crash. The ignition switch interlock lever can deform and allow the key to be removed while an automatic transmission is not in park, leaving the vehicle free to roll. Finally, Touring models with the power liftgate have a recall for gas struts that wear out prematurely and can allow the liftgate to drop unexpectedly on anyone standing below it.
