The Hyundai Accent GT has 1 recall affecting the 1997 model year, where the evaporative emission control system can pull excessive vacuum on the fuel tank during its purge cycle, distorting the tank and potentially cracking the upper surface. A crack in the tank can allow fuel or fuel vapors to escape into the engine bay, which a driver may notice as a gasoline smell inside or around the vehicle. The check engine light typically illuminates as well. Left unaddressed, a fuel vapor leak near hot engine components raises the risk of fire.
